Designer Grass™ is the first "Synthetic Turf" line that requires no infill. It is the culmination of the latest Technology and manufacturing techniques coupled with a groundbreaking Design.  Unique k.d.k polyethylene monofilament or nylon are added to our base turf as "tatching" thus maximizing the face weight- the amount of yarn(synthetic grass blades) tufted into the backing. This provides cushioning and dimensional stability, thereby replacing the need for infill.  Different amounts of styles of "thatching give each turf a unique look & feel. 

Infill is the material, usually a layer of silica sand followed by another layer of crumb rubber( ground up tires), that is spread on top of synthetic grass to maintain blade stability  and add cushioning.  Traditional infill turfs require between 5-6 pounds of crumb rubber and sand per square foot and are often filled with 1" or more of infill over the entire turf area.

The amount and type of yarn accounts for the majority of the cost of making turf products. Face weight ( measured in square yards.) is the measurement of how much yarn ( also referred to as "pile") is in a product. Like the Pricing of 14 karat versus 24 Karat Jewelry, more face weight means amore valuable and superior product. Infill turfs average 40 oz. of yarn(synthetic grass blades) per square yard while some Designer Grass™   have over 90 oz per square yard.
